Intravenous Infusion Therapy (IVIT)
Living Well Integrative Health Centre is certified with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario to provide a comfortable and safe environment for patients to receive intravenous infusion therapy (IVIT). IVIT uses high doses of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that are infused into the veins to enhance absorption and achieve outcomes that may not be possible with oral supplementation.
Some of the indications for IVIT include:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ Fibromyalgia
Chronic headaches
Chronic pain
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Digestive diseases such as Celiac disease
Mitigating the side effects of chemotherapy/radiation
Other
-
Vitamins: C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12
Minerals: Magnesium, Calcium, Selenium, Zinc
Amino Acids: building blocks of protein
Immune Agents: Glutathione
IVIT treatments may range from 30-75 minutes depending on the substances used and the condition being treated. Aside from the small discomfort from the initial needle prick, these treatments are generally painless.
Pain Relief IV
By infusing high doses of specific nutrients directly into the bloodstream, concentrations of these nutrients can be achieved that are not possible with oral supplements. At these doses, these nutrients relieve pain quickly.
Nutrients included in a Pain Relief IV include:
Magnesium
Calcium
B-vitamins
Vitamin C
Each of these nutrients has a specific role in relieving pain and work synergistically to get people back to living active lives.
For example, this combination of nutrients has been studied in patients with Fibromyalgia, and demonstrated to significantly improve tender points, pain, depression, and quality of life following treatment (DOI: 10.1089/acm.2008.0410).
Intravenous nutrient therapy relieves pain after surgery in patients (DOI: 10.1111/j.1399-6576.2009.02025.x).
IV magnesium has been demonstrated to be effective for the treatment of chronic nerve pain, caused by painful skin conditions and chronic diseases (PMID: 12393768) (doi: 10.1016/s0885-3924(99)00135-9).
One study on IV magnesium and back pain demonstrated that not only was pain improved, but back mobility was also significantly improved compared to placebo (DOI: 10.1111/anae.12107).
Injections
Injection therapies are offered including Vitamin B12 injections for deficiencies and pain, and other injections such Vitamin D, as indicated.
